ShowPlex Cinemas Gives Back
December 15th, 2011

OVERLAND PARK, KS – (December 15th, 2011) – ShowPlex Cinemas recently provided a $10,000 check to Care to Learn Founder Doug Pitt in support of the charity’s mission to aid the youth of southwest Missouri.

During the Springfield 11 IMAX® Grand Opening the week of November 14th, ShowPlex Cinemas held a Silent Auction to benefit Care to Learn, including auction items such as a Happy Feet Two movie poster signed by actors Elijah Wood and Robin Williams. The theatre also put the Care to Learn PSA on-screen in front of thousands of weekend movie-goers and donated a portion of weekend concessions proceeds to support Care to Learn.

"The Springfield area is excited about the remodel and expansion of ShowPlex Cinema’s Springfield 11 IMAX,” Morey Mechlin, Executive Director, Care to Learn, said. “Besides providing stellar entertainment, ShowPlex Cinemas is philanthropic and wants to be involved with the community. Their donation will provide hundreds of Springfield students with nutritional meals, needed hygiene products and adequate clothing for the cold, winter months."

“Care to Learn is an amazing organization,” Al Lane, CEO of ShowPlex Cinemas, said. “We absolutely believe in them and what they are doing, and feel it is important to do our part to give back to the community. This is a wonderful opportunity to work with a great team for an extremely important cause. We hope to be able to work with Care to Learn for many years to come.”

ShowPlex Cinemas looks forward to a continued partnership with Care to Learn and helping children within the Springfield community. Guests to the theatre can donate directly to Care to Learn via canisters at the Box Office and concessions counters.
